Epcot’s France Pavilion

When entering Epcot’s World Showcase after England, there is a bridge. You cross the bridge into Epcot’s France Pavilion.

French music is heard as you enter the French territory. The romance of France is showcased in this World Showcase Country in Epcot.

Disney’s France

Disney’s France Pavilion is themed to look like a Parisienne neighborhood with a pool and fountains and with a view of the Eiffel Tower in the distance. Most of the shops in this Disney attraction are actual shops selling French goods.

This Epcot attraction mirrors France’s cities and historical structures. It also includes two French restaurants, Monsieur Paul (formerly the Bistro de Paris) and Les Chefs de France as well as the eateries Les Halles Boulangerie and Patisserie and L’artisan des Glace ice-cream parlor.

Croque Monsieur

A croque monsieur is a baked or fried boiled ham and cheese sandwich. The dish originated in French cafés and bars as a quick snack.

The Croque Monsieur is a favorite in Epcot’s France Pavilion. It was served in the Les Chefs de France restaurant, however, it is no longer on the menu.

You can, however, find it in Les Halles Boulangerie and Patisserie. I was lucky to have had it in Chef de France dining establishment. The chef there provided me with this Epcot recipe!

Is croque monsieur popular in France? ›

France's most famous sandwich, the croque monsieur, is one such dish. On the surface, it's nothing more than a warm ham and cheese sandwich. But the croque monsieur is a perfectly harmonious and delightfully decadent sandwich, and its preparation is something of an art.

Do you eat a croque monsieur with a fork? ›

Croque monsieur is meant to be eaten with a knife and fork, as the French do. That way you can eat it when the cheese is still hot and gooey. If you'd like to make some changes, I could see replacing the ham with bacon or sautéed mushrooms, though you couldn't technically call it a croque monsieur.

Do you eat croque monsieur with your hands? ›

While the croque-monsieur can be eaten with the hands, which in some ways is the definition of a sandwich, its spouse the croque-madame cannot be. That's because a croque-madame is identical to a croque monsieur, except with a runny fried egg added on top.

I like Croque Monsieur as a quick and simple dinner served with a pile of arugula or field greens on the side and a glass of white wine. Preferably a Sancerre from the French Loire Valley to temporarily make you forget you are sitting in your own kitchen and not one in France. A good dish will do that.
